Eberhard Gönner

Eberhard Gönner (born December 10, 1919 in Neckarhausen ; † May 18, 2012 in Stuttgart ) was a German historian and archivist .

Life

Patrons grew in Hechingen up and put on the local high school down its Abitur. Then he did military service. After returning from captivity , he studied history, German and Romance studies at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . Since 1948 he was a member of the Catholic student association AV Guestfalia Tübingen . In 1950 he was with the work of the Revolution of 1848-49 in the Hohenzollern principalities and their connection to Prussia to Dr. phil. PhD . In the same year he joined the archives service of the state of Baden-Württemberg and initially worked at the Sigmaringen State Archives until 1954 . In 1956 he came to the main state archive in Stuttgart and took over its management in 1975. In 1979 he became President of the Baden-Württemberg State Archives Department and held this position until his retirement in 1984. In 1984 he was awarded the honorary title of professor by the then Prime Minister Lothar Späth .

From 1969 to 1981 he was chairman of the Württemberg History and Antiquity Association and later its honorary member. From 1979 to 1985 he was chairman of the commission for historical regional studies in Baden-Württemberg . Furthermore, in 1989 he was made an honorary member of the History Association of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart .
