Gregory I (Jerusalem)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gregorios I († between August 1281 and May 1291) was the Greek patriarch of Jerusalem .

The beginning and end of his patriarchy cannot be precisely dated. In 1275 he was already in office. He opposed the union-friendly church policy of the Byzantine emperor Michael VIII. In his name Georgios Moschampar wrote an anti-Latin treatise on the emergence of the Holy Spirit ( Filioque ) . Apparently Gregorios died before the siege of Acre (1291) .
