A gripping machine (short: gripper ), Kraller or toy machine (English Claw crane or Skill crane ) is a combination of vending machine and slot machine . After inserting a coin and winning, the vending machine can, for example , issue toys such as plush toys . There are also automatic grippers for jewelry such as watches and rings , electronic devices, as well as candy and marbles . The first gripper , mainly for fishing of candy was in 1965 the Crown 602 by Taito .

The introduction of the automatic gripper (standing form) in Germany was achieved by Reppel Handels GmbH in 1980. In 1982 the so-called "floor gripper" followed, the concept of which is still unique today. One looks from above at the claw and the goods below it at ground level. In 1985, the "gripper container" or "gripper trailer", which is still often seen at fairs today, was introduced.

Components of gripping machines

An automatic gripper consists of various parts. The basic components, on the other hand, can be broken down as follows:

  • The slide, consisting of several single-phase motors in series, moves the claw and is mounted in the upper part of the device;
  • the claw, usually consisting of three brackets, is made to close electromagnetically via a coil ;
  • the control board;
  • the power supply unit (working voltage control mostly 12 V DC, slide and claw approx. 40-50 V DC);
  • the control panel, usually consisting of a joystick or buttons .

function

In advance, a distinction is made between the first type with a “joystick”, in which the slide can be moved as often as required in a specified period in the x and z axes, and the second version with two buttons. You can only go back and right once. It is not possible to correct the position afterwards.

When the money is entered, the coin or banknote is checked for authenticity according to a number of criteria. Then the control is released, usually a joystick . By means of a motorized axis slide, which is moved in the x and z axes, goods, for example soft toys, can be aimed at in the machine. Once the movement has taken place, the cable winch with the claw is usually lowered at the push of a button and grabs. Then it moves over the output shaft and opens the claw. When the claw has transported something up there, the released product falls into an output chute. The claw grips differently, so that incorrect grips are also possible if the gripper position is well preselected. The strength can be set by the machine operator, for example randomly controlled or that a predetermined win rate is not exceeded.

The payout rate influences the game system by limiting the chances of winning. This is done by modulating (or clocking) the claw in a certain cycle. Example: The payout rate is set by the operator so that the claw accesses every fifth game with 60% and the remaining games work with 20% of the maximum power. A device with a payout rate can usually be identified by means of a light barrier placed on the ejector. This acknowledges the ejected goods and automatically adjusts the program and the rate.

Gambling

The dispensing after inserting money is not guaranteed at the slot machine. After a judgment of the Cottbus District Court on the determination of cuddly toy gripping machines as a game of chance, it is determined that it is "by no means a vending machine, the functionality of which would be determined by offer, acceptance and distribution of goods, but without a doubt a game device, because the The overriding period of the process does not lie in the simple selection of the desired object to be purchased, but in the operation of the operating lever, observation of the effect on the gripper, assessment of its vertical position over the desired object and attempted gripping. [...] None of the above-mentioned people succeeded in getting the selected goods into the discharge chute. A purchase did not come about at all. Nevertheless, the device kept the euro that was thrown in. "
