Gripping tooth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A hydraulically movable counter-holder attached to an excavator bucket is called a gripping tooth.

This combination (also of backhoes and gripper combination spoon is called) is mainly used for small excavators up to a weight of 10 tons.

Areas of application:

  • cancellation
  • Asphalt paving
  • Clearing work
  • Sorting work in the recycling area
  • Moving armourstones (granite stones)
  • General excavation and loading work

Similar, somewhat simpler constructions are known in the USA under the name excavator thumb ( English excavator "bagger"; thumb "thumb"). With these systems, the counter holder is attached to the excavator arm and not to the bucket.

The gripping tooth is called the thumb there because it has a similar function to the thumb on the human hand.
