Greiss

Greiss is a cattle-killing demon from the legends of the Alpine region . He is a personification of the bogus disease .

According to tradition, greiss can appear in the form of a black cat, a squirrel or a stranger or it can be caused by the baptism of a lamb and destroy livestock in entire Alps. For prevention, sacrifices could be made, to fight a silvery-white bull had to be led up to the alp by a virgin, which would then defeat the Greiss.
