Gria Vathra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gria Vathra ( Greek Γριά Βάθρα ) is an area of watercourses and small lakes about 600 meters from the village of Therma (Θερμά) on the island of Samothraki (Σαμοθράκη).

Legend has it that an old woman (the "Griá") fell down and drowned in one of the meter-deep water pools (depressions in river beds) in search of her goats.

Along the rocks, through several small waterfalls, you get to small lakes and pools, in which it is officially not allowed to bathe for safety reasons. Some pools are several meters deep and are life-threatening if you take a bath alone, as the cold water can easily trigger cramps.
