In the square, which has the shape of an elongated rectangle, there are fountains and resting places. In its center stands the Majurowa House ( Будинок Маюрова Budynok Majurowa ) , also known as the Round House , with an oval floor plan. There are museums and a shopping center around it. For a long time the square was considered the center of the book trade and there is still a large book market on its edge. The square, now a pedestrian zone, was in the past a traffic junction that many tram lines crossed or started here.

Today the square is a regular venue for various events such as festivals, exhibitions and concerts.
