Gromadzka Rada Narodowa

The Gromadzka Rada Narodowa (GRN, Eng. Gromada People's Council ) was responsible for the administration of the lowest administrative unit, the Gromada , in the People's Republic of Poland between 1954 and 1972. The GRN were elected for three years by the residents of the Gromada and had between 9 and 27 members . The number was determined by the Powiat Rady Narodowa and was based on the population of the Gromada.

One of the tasks of the People's Council was

  • supplying the local population,
  • the maintenance of the local infrastructure,
  • Satisfying the social and cultural needs of the local population,
  • Organization and management of the local educational institution
  • Organize and improve public health care as well
  • the promotion of agricultural production.
