Amalie Pit (Amelose)

The Amalie mine is a tunnel in Amelose where copper ore was mined in the 19th and 20th centuries . Today the pit is mostly filled in.

location

The mine is located near Amelose in the municipality of Dautphetal . The old entrance can still be seen in the forest next to the federal highway 453 , which Amelose crosses. The pit is about 250 m above sea level. NN.

history

The pit was closed around 1960. During the Second World War, a side tunnel of the Amalie mine was used as an air raid shelter.

Minerals

In the mine there were mainly copper ores, but lime and barite were also present. Mineral deposits in the hinterland can be found in the Lahn-Dill area .
