GtkHTML is a free HTML rendering engine written in C using GTK + . The project is a spin-off from KHTML . It was developed by Larry Ewing and later with the assistance of Ettore Perazzoli and published by Ximian (present name: Xamarin ) before the company was bought by Novell.
GtkHTML is part of the Gnome desktop environment and is only used by Evolution . Most Gnome programs now use the Gecko engine from Mozilla. At the moment (when?) One tries to implement WebKit as a complete alternative for GtkHTML.
In the instant messaging program Gaim, today Pidgin , a rendering engine of the same name, but completely independently developed, was used for a short time.
