gucharmap ("GNOME Unicode Character Map") is a Unicode character mapping program. It uses the GTK + Toolkit and runs on any platform that GTK supports. The characters from gucharmap can be inserted into many other programs if (special) characters are required that are not available via the keyboard. gucharmap contains all Unicode characters and thus the characters of almost all writing systems . It has been included in GNOME since Gnome 2.4.

gucharmap arranges the characters according to Unicode groups and offers a full text search for the character details. Starting with version 1.8, it includes support for Unicode 5.0.

The versioning scheme was changed with version 8.0. If the version number previously corresponded to the corresponding version of GNOME, this scheme changed with GNOME 3.20. From now on, the version number of gucharmap corresponds to the current version of Unicode.

In order to be able to graphically display the corresponding characters in gucharmap, the corresponding ttf packages must be installed on Linux .
