The Gulfstream American GA-7 Cougar is a twin-engine business jet produced by the US manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace .

History and construction

The CA-7 Cougar is a low - wing aircraft that is powered by two Lycoming O-320 -D1D with 120 kW each. It is a further development of the company's previous single-engine aircraft. The prototype was still equipped with two Lycoming O-320s with 119 kW each and had a cockpit hood that could be pushed back, which was replaced on the series aircraft by a fixed cockpit roof with a door that opened to starboard. Due to several modifications, the prototype did not fly again until January 14, 1977. Production of the Cougar only ran from 1978 to 1979.

In 1995 the production rights for the GA-7 were sold to SOCATA in France, which wanted to produce the aircraft as the TB 320 Tangara for the training market. The first flight of this type took place in mid-1996. 7 copies were produced. SOCATA also developed a variant, which was driven by two Lycoming O-360 -A1G6 with 134 kW each and was called TB 360 Tangara . In addition, the cockpit has also been revised in this version. The first flight was in February 1997. The machine was not produced in series.
