Gullfaks is an oil field in the North Sea . The field opened in 1986 was the first oil field to be completely developed by Norwegian companies. With an estimated reserves of 2.3 billion barrels, it is the fourth largest field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea .

The field was discovered in 1979, Statoil began work on the oil field in 1981 and began production on the Gullfaks C drilling rig in 1986 . Since the funding peak in 1995, the annual output has decreased to a tenth of the volume at that time.
