Gummitwist is the name of a children's game that is all about skill, rhythm and body control.

The name comes from the play equipment used for this, an elastic band, and the fashion dance twist (from twist ( English , "rotation", to twist "[together] turning"; in sport acrobatics : rotation around the body axis when jumping) for the turning Movement during play). In Austria and Bavaria it is known as rubber hopping , in the GDR this game was also known as rubber hopping , rubber hopping , rubber doll or rubber panties .

equipment

In order to play rubber twists, you need an elastic band about three meters long, such as a pull-through elastic for clothing (panty elastic ). The trade also sells colored ribbons and ribbons specially made for rubber twists. The game is intended for at least three participants. If you play alone or in pairs, you need one or two attachment options (stake, street sign, chair, garbage can, etc.) to attach the rubber band outdoors. It can also be made possible by hook screws in four suitable places where the rubber can be clamped.

Teammates and rules

The number of players is unlimited. If you have a lot of players (around six people or more) you don't get a chance too often. The rules vary from country to country, from city to city, and even from school to school. They are mostly passed down orally and are changed and reinvented. The basic principle, however, remains the same:

Basic rule

The rubber is stretched and stretched around the feet of two participants. These face each other, facing each other. A third player now hops in, on or between this rubber band in previously agreed rhythms. If he makes a mistake, it is the next person's turn. If he succeeds in the error-free process, the level of difficulty is increased.

error

The following are considered errors:

  • touch a rubber if this is not permitted
  • Land your feet on a false rubber
  • get caught on a rubber band or get tangled
  • skip a jump
  • do not adhere to the predefined sequence of jumps
  • land in the wrong field

Difficulty levels

To increase the level of difficulty, the rubber band is tightened higher and higher, so that large jumps are required. A narrowing of the position of the legs and thus a reduction in the hit area to be touched with the feet also contributes to the difficulty. The leg movements of the band holder while jumping are particularly difficult. This causes the rubber band to move and is difficult to calculate. This variation is often referred to as jello . In the height variant, the participants differentiate between five or six positions, with the tape looped around the designated point:

In terms of width, four levels of difficulty are usually selected:

  • "Wide" - the foot position is around 60–70 cm
  • "Normal" - the feet are about 30 cm apart
  • "Tree trunk" - the feet are close together
  • "One-legged" - the band is only stretched around one foot at a time

Jump variants

There are a number of jumps, the most common of which are listed here:

  • "Middle" - the feet land in the middle between the two bands
  • "Straddle" - both feet land outside the rubber
  • "On" - (mostly) one or both feet land on the rubber
  • “Out” - you end up on a page outside of the tape during this final jump

rhythm

In order to achieve a certain rhythm , a verse is often recited during the jumps, which also serves as a reminder for the respective variant. Such verses are, for example:

  • Trick - Track - Donald Duck - Mickey Mouse - in and out
  • In - the - witch-kitchen - it's - fun
  • Science has established that Co-ca contains Co-la poison
  • Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around, crouch, teddy bear, teddy bear make you small, teddy bear hopping on one leg
  • Also the rhythmically spoken lines on a Spanish bench, there was a Spanish man who said ... or Co-ca-Co-la in the box ... are tools that keep changing from generation to generation change.
  • A traditional verse that announces the jumps is: side, side, middle, width, side, side, middle, out , where you have to jump at side, side so that you have the elastic cord between your legs on the left and right. In the middle you jump with both feet into the stretched rectangle, in the width you have to straddle your legs so that the elastic is between the legs, and with out this is left by jumping.

Game variants

  • In the Chinese version , the rubber band is crossed in the middle and the active player has to jump into the different areas like in a kind of hummingbird .
  • In a multiplayer variant, three participants form a triangle with the rubber band. The now up to three active players jump over the belt at the same time in an agreed-upon manner, whereby they continue to move counter-clockwise on command. Anyone who makes a mistake here is eliminated, and whoever is left wins wins. This variation is also often used to determine the order in the normal rubber twist.
