Gutthorm (or Guttorm) is the son of Grimhild and stepson of Giukis in the Norse legend. This makes him the stepbrother of Gudrun , Gunnar and Högni .
Gunnar and Högni urge him to murder Sigurd , as he is not bound by an oath to him. He complies with this request and becomes Sigurd's murderer. However, he himself finds death through him, since Sigurd is still throwing his sword at him.
In the German song of the Nibelungs, Hagen (Högni) carried out this crime himself.
