Supramarginal gyrus

The supramarginal gyrus is a turn ( gyrus ) of the cerebral cortex and is located in both halves of the cerebrum at the transition between the parietal , temporal and occipital lobes , but is classified as part of the parietal lobe. It loops around the posterior end of the Sylvian fissure .

histology

Histologically, it corresponds to Brodmann area 40.

topology

Rostral of the supramarginal gyrus is the Wernicke area, which is essential for language understanding . Caudal is the angular gyrus , dorsal is the inferior parietal lobule .

function

Damage to the supramarginal gyrus of the language-dominant hemisphere of the brain can lead to Gerstmann syndrome .
