The highest organizational patent of the constitution of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt was the constitution of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt from 1810.

The Grand Duchy emerged as a model state on the initiative of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte , who signed a corresponding State Treaty on February 19, 1810 . The model states received constitutions based on the French model . These are the oldest codified constitutions in Germany.

The constitution of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt was enacted on August 16, 1810 by Prince Primate Karl Theodor von Dalberg . He was guided by the constitution of the Kingdom of Westphalia from 1807.

The constitution first describes the integration of the Grand Duchy into the Napoleonic order. The Grand Duchy is part of the Confederation of the Rhine (§ 2). Eugène de Beauharnais is to be the successor to the prince-prince as Grand Duke and the crown should fall to the French imperial family when the line dies out (§ 4).

A number of modernizations of the law are codified. In this way serfdom is abolished (Section 13) and the privileges of the nobility are reduced (Section 14). The metric system is also introduced (§ 16).

The government is to be formed from three ministers who are responsible for individual specialist departments. In addition, a State Council consisted of 9 people, to which the ministers and 6 appointed councilors belonged and which was chaired by the Grand Duke (§§ 17-25). The Assembly of Estates of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt , the Parliament of the Grand Duchy, and its committees are also involved in the legislative process (Sections 20–26).

The administrative division of the Grand Duchy is described in Sections 29–36, the principles of the administration of justice in Sections 37–40.
