Hüsten Fair 2009

The Hüstener Kirmes in Arnsberg is the second largest folk festival in South Westphalia after the All Saints Fair in Soest . However, it is the largest open-air fair in the Sauerland.

On the Hüstener Riggenweide (Arnsberger Straße), the fair takes place every year for five days on the weekend around the 2nd Sunday in September, which was first mentioned in documents around the year 900 as a regular meeting point for buying and selling goods. Hence the slogan is derived: Over 1000 years of Hüstener Kirmes. Even today, the animal show reminds of the origins every year on fair Monday with the associated Krammarkt. In addition to the actual hype, there is an accompanying program with live music. A song was dedicated to the Hüsten fair.

Admission to the animal show on Monday is free. The square will open to visitors at 9:00 a.m. The animals are buoyed from 6:00 a.m. The animal show has an annually changing focus topic:

  • 2012 - processing of domestic woods
  • 2013 - Grain I
  • 2014 - Grain II
  • 2015 - Grain III
  • 2016 - wood as an energy source
  • 2017 - The farm and its products
  • 2018 - sheep
  • 2019 - horses

The number of visitors is around 300,000 per year. The Hüstener Kirmesgesellschaft eV under the direction of Ingo Beckschäfer is organizing the event. The fair is organized by volunteers, which is rather unusual for a festival of this size.
