HAZCHEM Emergency Action Code

The HazChem Code comes from the English area ( English Hazardous Chemicals , German  Hazardous Chemicals ). It briefly describes the emergency and protective measures to be taken by the fire brigade in the event of damage involving dangerous chemicals.

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the HazChem code and the dangerous diamond are usually not found on the load or the transport vehicle, but in the relevant literature ( Hommel , dangerous goods key) or in the IT databases of the control center (Resy 2009, Keudel Database, information system for hazardous substances (IGS) etc.).

The advantage of this code is that, unlike the Kemler number , only the dangers are itemized individually. Instead, clear instructions on the extinguishing agent , protective clothing and procedure are given (e.g. foam , CSA , dikes).
