HMS Maori

Two ships of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS Maori for the people of the Maori , the indigenous inhabitants of New Zealand

  • The first HMS Maori was a torpedo boat destroyer of the first tribal class , which was launched in 1909 and sank on May 7, 1915 off Zeebrugge by a mine hit.
  • The second HMS Maori (F24) was a destroyer of a new Tribal class , launched in 1937, during World War II a. a. was involved in the hunt for the Bismarck and in the rescue of survivors of the German battleship and was sunk on February 12, 1942 by an air raid in the port of Valletta , Malta . The wreck is now a popular dive site.
