HMS Neptune
Nine Royal Navy ships were christened HMS Neptune after the Roman god of the sea, Neptunus .
- Neptune , launched in 1683, was a 2nd class sailing ship with 90 guns that was rebuilt twice before being renamed Torbay in1750and becoming a 3rd class sailing ship. This ship was presumablycapturedby the pirate Calico Jack Rackham in a mutiny.
- HMS Neptune (1797) was a second class ship of the line with 98 cannons. She took part in the Battle of Trafalgar .
- HMS Neptune (1874) was an iron-armored battleship.
- The eighth HMS Neptune (1909) , launched in 1909, was a battleship.
- The ninth HMS Neptune (20) was a Leander-class cruiser and was sunk in 1941.
Today the Faslane Naval Base is called HMS Neptune .
