HMS Tiger

Several ships of the British Royal Navy were named Tiger or HMS Tiger and were named after the tiger .

  • The first Tiger had 22 cannons and was built in 1546. After 1600 the ship was used as a floating battery and was scrapped in 1605.
  • The second Tiger was used to explore the Arctic in 1613 .
  • The third Tyger was launched in 1647. The ship with 32 guns was destroyed in 1742.
  • The fourth Tiger was a fourth class ship with 50 guns. Just before it was launched in 1743, it was named Harwich . It was lost in 1760.
  • The fifth Tiger was a fourth rank, sixty-gun ship launched in 1747. From 1761 it served as the Hulk and was sold in Bombay in 1765 .
  • The sixth Tiger was a Spanish third rank ship with 74 guns, launched in 1747 and captured by the Royal Navy in 1762. It was sold in 1784.
  • The seventh Tiger was launched as Ardent in 1764 and was captured by France in the same year. The third rank 64-gun ship came back into British possession in 1782, was renamed Tiger and sold in 1784.
  • The eighth Tiger was a 4-gun Hoy that was purchased in 1794 and sold again in 1798.
  • The ninth HMS Tiger was a second rank 80 cannon ship that was captured by France in 1795. It was scrapped in 1817.
  • The tenth HMS Tiger was to be a fourth class ship with 50 guns. Before it was launched in 1802, it was renamed HMS Grampus .
  • The eleventh HMS Tiger was a brig with 12 guns. The ship was in service between 1808 and 1812.
  • The twelfth HMS Tiger was a wheel-driven sloop launched in 1849. The ship, which was operated as a frigate from 1852 , was captured by Russia in 1854 and used as the Tigr .
  • The thirteenth HMS Tiger was a destroyer of the C-Class , which was launched in 1900. It went under in 1908 after a collision with HMS Berwick .
  • The fourteenth HMS Tiger was a battle cruiser launched in 1913. It was scrapped in 1932.
  • The fifteenth HMS Tiger was a light cruiser of the Minotaur class are. The ship, ordered in 1942 and renamed HMS Bellerophon in the same year , was laid down in 1944 . After further renaming to HMS Blake in 1944 and again to HMS Bellerophon in the following year, the building was finally canceled in 1946.
  • The sixteenth HMS Tiger was a Minotaur- class light cruiser . It was appointed as HMS Blake and renamed HMS Tiger in 1944 , but renamed HMS Blake again a year later . After a long break in construction, the ship was put into service in 1961 and sold for demolition in 1982.
  • The seventeenth HMS Tiger was a Minotaur- class light cruiser originally ordered as the HMS Bellerophon . In 1945 the ship was launched under the name HMS Tiger and was scrapped in 1986.
