Hadrat

Hadrat (حضرة, DMG ḥaḍrat / ḥaḍra ; Turkish Hazreti ) literally means “present”. This is a form of address that expresses great respect and has the following meanings:

  • your honor to a high official
  • at a clergy reverence
  • to a king your majesty
  • In the case of the names of prophets , their companions, imams and their descendants, or of saints (mostly Sufis ), it expresses the holiness of the person in the sense of “the one called by God”


  • ḥaḍra (present, presence) is also a term for communal forms of Dhikr .
