Hagi-no-tsuki

Hagi-no-tsuki ( Japanese 萩 の 月 ) is a Japanese sweet . It is a product of the Kashosanzen company and has been manufactured and sold in Miyagi Prefecture since 1979 . Hagi-no-Tsuki consist of a dough shell made of Castella and have a filling of vanilla cream .

The name is made up of the words “hagi” ( Thunberg's bush clover ) and “tsukimi” (looking at the moon). Miyagi Prefecture, especially Matsushima Island , is a popular place for hagi and tsukimi .

This candy is traditionally used in Miyagi Prefecture as a gift on the Buddhist holiday Obon (Day of Wandering Souls). Nowadays they can be bought in other prefectures as well.
