In Hohenlohe, Hamballe is the name for a lovable but foolish person. The emphasis in pronunciation is on the first syllable (as in Ham pelmann). The term Hamballe (also: Hamballi) can also be found in some Swabian dialect dictionaries.

Hamballe is the title of a carnival newspaper in Öhringen . This newspaper has been published by TSG Öhringen (formerly the men's gymnastics club) since 1903, and has been called Hamballe since 1907 .

In 1987 a memorial was set up for the Hamballe in Öhringen. The memorial shows how he protects himself from the rain with an umbrella and at the same time waters the flowers with a jug. (Inscription: "Original type of high-minded simplicity ...")

Every year in Öhringen a humorous personality is awarded the "Silver Hamballe". Slogan of a silver hamball : "The citizens of Öhringen are very distinguished because they do not take the seats away from other people in church on Sunday."

Colloquially everyone is a Hamballe who was born in Öhringen.
