Ministry of Commerce (Iran)

The Ministry of Commerce of Iran is the main body of the Iranian government with the task of regulating and implementing guidelines applicable to domestic and foreign trade . This includes, among other things, the implementation of economic strategies and regulations, export promotion, the design and implementation of development programs, the issuing of import and export regulations, the pricing of local goods and the organization of national and international trade fairs and exhibitions. The Ministry of Commerce is also responsible for relations between Iran and the World Trade Organization (WTO) .

Organization to promote trade

The Trade Promotion Organization is affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce. Their job is to promote exports of goods other than oil. She has a close relationship with the Institute for Standards and Industrial Research of Iran.

Export Guarantee Fund

Affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce, the Export Guarantee Fund was set up to expand and promote exports, to protect exporters against non-commercial risks that are not normally covered by insurance, and to guarantee loans for the export of goods and Services are needed.

The organization for the protection of consumers and producers

The Organization for the Protection of Consumers and Producers (OPCP) is affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce. The main tasks of the OPCP are:

  • Protection and promotion of local production;
  • Protecting consumers from unusual price fluctuations;
  • Monitoring, adjusting and controlling prices for products and services;

Government Trading Company (GTC)

The GTC is affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce. The main objective of the facility is to ensure food security in the country by providing basic goods such as wheat, rice, raw sugar, crude oil, milk powder, fertilizers and publicly needed goods such as staple foods from local and foreign sources. Such goods are sold to consumers at subsidized prices . The activities of the GTC regarding the supply of essential goods are determined in the law on the supply of the public by the government with essential raw materials and food from foreign sources . The Ministry of Commerce has announced that it intends to promote domestic production by making the country self-sufficient in the food sector.
