The hand ram (also called Jungfer, Besetzschlägel, Stampfe, Tamfer, Hoye or Heye) is a manual tool for soil compaction of building ground .

The hand ram consists of a piece of wood about 1 m long that becomes stronger towards the bottom and can be reinforced with iron bands. Another version is an iron punch shoe with a wooden insert or as a solid iron. It is handled using crossbars (struts) or iron handles attached to the side. The hand ram can be operated by a single person or by several people at the same time.

The weight of the hand ram is between 13 and 60 kg, the lifting height is around 60 cm.

Due to the physically demanding activity, it is mostly used for very small areas or in the hobby area. The machine form is the vibratory tamper .
