Hanley (Staffordshire)

Hanley

Hanley is the most populous of the six cities that make up the English city of Stoke-on-Trent . It is the heart of Stoke-on-Trent, in which there are many pubs, cafes, clubs, museums, theaters and also shops (especially the largest shopping center in Stoke, the so-called "Potteries Shopping Center"). “Going up Hanley” therefore means something like “going out”.

history

Hanley was first mentioned in 1227 as "Hanlih". Hanley was incorporated into the city in 1857. The first mayor was John Ridgway; The dromedary, which can still be seen in the city's coat of arms, also comes from him.
