Hans-Volker Niemeier

Hans-Volker Niemeier (born December 11, 1940 ) is a German mathematician.

Niemeier received his doctorate from Martin Kneser at the University of Göttingen in 1968 (definite quadratic forms of dimension 24 and discriminant 1). Until his retirement he was a professor at the Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences .

Niemeier classified (in his dissertation published in 1973) the straight, positive-definite unimodular lattices in 24 dimensions (including the Leech lattice ), the Niemeier lattice.
