The residential complex

Harikzedegân is a former residential complex in Turkey . The complex was the first social housing project in the country and consisted of four six-story apartment blocks in neoclassical style with courtyards and a total of 124 residential units. Harikzedegân means “people damaged by fire” and was built for the victims of a wildfire in Istanbul in 1918. The system was built in the years 1919–1922 in Istanbul's old town near the Laleli Mosque . The architect was Kemalettin Bey . The residential complex was the first full concrete structure in Turkey. After completion, the facility was handed over to the Turkish Airline Company and is therefore known under the name “Tayyare Apartments” (“Aviation Apartments”). In the 1980s, Harikzedegân was converted into a luxury hotel.
