Harry Irving

Harry Munroe Napier Hetherington Irving , often cited as HMNH Irving, (* 1905 ; † 1993 in Cape Town ) was a British chemist . He was a professor at Leeds University .

He received his doctorate in 1929 with Frederick D. Chattaway at the University of Oxford .

He was Professor at Oxford (Vice-Principal of St. Edmonds Hall) and since 1961 Professor of Inorganic and Structural Chemistry at the University of Leeds and Head of the Chemistry Faculty in Leeds. He was visiting professor at several US universities and in South Africa.

In 1948 he introduced the Irving Williams series with his student Robert Williams .

He was a pianist with a degree from the Royal Academy of Music and in his spare time he was also a figure skating judge for the National Skating Association.
