Harshavarman III.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harshavarman III. was king of the Khmer Empire of Angkor between 1066 and around 1080 . He was the last representative of his dynasty on the throne of Angkor.

Harshavarman succeeded his older brother Udayadityavarman II on the throne. Its capital was the so-called Second Yasodharapura , which had its center in Baphuon and was laid out by his brother. His reign was riddled with internal revolts, which he was ultimately unable to put down.

The successor of Harshavarman II was the usurper Jayavarman VI. who came from the area of Phimai and Phanom Rung in what is now Thailand . If Harshavarman had not died in 1080, he left Angkor and sought refuge in the south of the empire, where his followers fought against Jayavarman's troops.

Harshavarman was posthumously given the name Sadaśivapada . He is mentioned by name on the stele K.908 in Preah Khan of Jayavarman VII as an ancestor on his mother's side.
