Hartberger Gmoos
The Hartberger Gmoos is a nature reserve in the south of Hartberg , Styria , Austria .
location
In a shallow depression at an altitude of 319 to 328 meters, it borders directly on the built-up urban area of the district capital Hartberg. The moor developed through silting up of the "Edelsee", the remains of which can still be found in the deepest places. The mean altitude is 324 m.
Flora and fauna
Typical animals of the Hartberger Gmoos are warblers, water rails, white storks, insects such as butterflies and dragonflies, frogs and toads. The area is structured by rows and groups of alders and willows (Alnus glutinosa, A. incana, Salix cinerea, S. fragilis). At the Safenbach there are remains of a hardwood meadow with oaks, elms and ash trees ( Quercus robur , Ulmus laevis , Fraxinus excellsior ).

The 65 ha area has been a nature reserve since 1992 and was declared a European protected area in 2005.
Bird ringing stations
A bird ringing station is located in the southern part of the Hartberger Gmoos . According to the 2012 Activity Report, 13,325 birds of 88 different species had been caught by the end of 2012.
Recreation area
Around the Hartberger Gmoos there is an easily accessible, approx. 3.5 km long, flat circular path for cycling, running and walking.
