The structure at Obertorstrasse 21/23 in Esslingen am Neckar is a historic, listed gate building with an attached residential building.

The gate once formed the entrance to the St. Clare Hospital. Today the building is used as a residential and commercial building. It stands on a diamond-shaped base; the neighboring houses at Obertorstrasse 19 and 25 adjoin the two narrow sides. The two parts of the structure are equally wide.

The original building, which today has the address Obertorstraße 21, can be dated to the years 1302/03. On the ground floor there is a small passage on the left, next to it a passage that can still be used today. There may have been a guest house next to the passage. Between 1520 and 1524 the gatehouse was rebuilt and the half-timbered building on the property at Obertorstraße 23 was added. A room with a plank beam ceiling was set up on the first floor of the new building.

In the 18th / 19th In the 19th century, the building was supplemented by a rear extension.

On September 1, 1998, there was a roof fire in Obertorstrasse 21. This made renovation necessary between 1999 and 2002.
