history

Preparations for the construction of Haus Ockel began in 1838. The merchant Heinrich Ockel acquired an existing so-called boutique on Brunnenplatz and had it replaced by a new residential and commercial building by 1840. Around 1865 he added a second floor and an attic to the house. His son Rudolf Ockel performed his mayor's office from Haus Ockel. Following the early days of the founding, he made the house look more representative by adding a porch on the first floor in 1879. This required a corresponding building permit on “princely land”. Today's appearance of the house was essentially completed in 1887, when the facade on the 2nd floor was supplemented with balconies facing the Brunnenplatz.
