House Opheim

The Opheim house was in the Wurmtal , on the L 42, between Leerodt Castle and the Kogenbroich district of the city of Geilenkirchen in the Heinsberg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

A Dietrich von Opheim was mentioned in 1429 and 1444, an Arnold von Opheim in 1477. In 1520 an Arnold von Wachtendonk and 1563 a Jacob von der Heyden-Belderbusch owned the property . Jacob was married to Anna von Horrich , whose mother was Christina von Wachtendonk. His son Wilhelm sold the estate in 1606 to the von Leerodt family, who have owned it ever since.

building

The property was a three-wing complex dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, which was surrounded by a double system of ditches. Around 1900 there was still a remnant of the former building stock of Haus Opheim, but nothing is left today. Based on the nature of the terrain, however, both the former ditch system and the location of the buildings can be recognized.
