Haus Schmelzle is a listed building in Bietigheim-Bissingen . The former residential and practice building of the dentist Richard Schmelzle is open to the public a few days a year as a museum of medical history for 20th century dentistry .

history

The building was designed in 1953 by Roland Kiemlen for the dentist Richard Schmelzle as a residential building with an integrated dental practice. In 1959 there was an enlargement. Richard Schmelzle practiced in the building until 1998. Since the practice ended, the practice's now museum-like, historical furnishings have been preserved, including many devices from the 1930s. The building now opens its doors to the public a few days a year as a so-called medical history museum for 20th century dentistry .

description

The T-shaped, one to two-story building with a flat sloping roof is located in a large garden plot at Bahnhofstrasse 113. The living and practice areas are not clearly separated from each other. The practice rooms (two consulting rooms, a waiting room, a writing room, a laboratory) are more to the south and the living rooms more to the north of the building, but the dentist's living room was also used as a waiting room for private patients and the building initially only had one entrance and a hallway that connected all the rooms. It was not until a larger waiting room was added in 1959 that the practice was given a separate entrance.

In large areas of the building, the construction-time equipment has been preserved, including tiles and travertine cladding of the practice area as well as textile wall coverings in the hallway and living area, as well as doors, windows and built-in furniture.
