The House of Spirta ( Serbian - Cyrillic Спиртина кућа ) is a cultural monument in Serbia . It is located in Zemun at 9 Glavna Street.

history

It was built in neo-Gothic style as one of the first raised ground floor family houses in the old core of Zemun. It belonged to the wealthy and influential Spirta family in Zemun.

Its architectural features make it stand out among the houses in Zemun, which testifies to the special social situation and the taste of the former owners. The main part of the building reaches the height of the one-story neighboring houses. It is of the three-wing type, with a side wing in the courtyard and an asymmetrical driveway. It has a rich interior characteristic of wealthy bourgeois houses. The decorative wallpaper, the stylish ceilings, the ceramic stoves, the fireplaces and the splendid, stylishly inlaid parquet floor stand out particularly. The main facade is composed in the scheme of odd numbers, which is characteristic of the period of romanticism. In the decorative flat plastic of the facade, in the processing of the joinery and the processing of the ornaments of the floors, walls and attics of the building, the eclectic spirit of the era and the taste of the owners was expressed. The building was made of hard material, and with its bourgeois line documents the old regulation that was formed in the 18th century. It is part of Glavna zemunska ulica street, its profile and line.

The cultural monument

The Hotel Garni was in this house for a while. housed. Since 1971 there has been a permanent exhibition of the Zemun Local History Museum in the house, which shows the past of Zemun from the time of its creation until 1945. The museum has been closed to visitors since 2002 until today. The property has been declared a cultural monument (decision of the institute - No. 182/4 of March 12, 1965). It was located in the framework of the spatial and cultural-historical unit of Staro Jezgro (Old Core) of Zemun, which was declared a cultural asset of great importance for the Republic of Serbia (decision, “Official Journal of the SRS” No. 14/79).
