The housekeeping service or "home sitter" originated in the USA and was also used in Germany in the 1980s .

Housekeeping is the term given to looking after properties whose owners are temporarily away. In particular, animals are looked after and plants are watered. An essential part of the service is the permanent presence in the house with clearly specified going out times of a maximum of four hours a day. In addition, there is only hourly care for pets and plants in the house and garden. Serious housekeeping agencies offer company liability insurance for the care period and accident insurance for employees.
