features

The Elliotliest is closely related to the Spatelliest , a species widespread in New Guinea and the Moluccas with numerous subspecies that, like the Elliotliest, are more frequent island endings. The Elliotliest is occasionally treated as a subspecies of the Spatelliestes.

The Elliotliest, including the extended control feathers, reaches a body length of 33 to 34 centimeters, of which between 10 and 11 centimeters are the tail plumage. It has a large red beak, light blue head, white chest plumage, and blue wings. It has very long white tail feathers. The pure white tail feathers, which do not have a spade-shaped widening at the end, are one of the essential characteristics why the Elliotliest is assigned a species status. There is no pronounced gender dimorphism .

distribution and habitat

The Elliotliest is just on the off the west coast of New Guinea situated Indonesian island Kofiau common.

Way of life

It feeds on insects and worms that it catches on the ground.
