The term disaster money (in the German Commercial Code until 1 January 2008 Havereigeld ) refers to the costs incurred by an accident , so a ship accident or sea damage, the shipping company caused or their insurance.

The term is also used for accident-related damage to freighted land or air vehicles. Although the term average has also been used for incidents in nuclear power plants since the 1980s , average payment is not mentioned in this context.
