Hecatomb

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hecatomb was a trading card game from the American company Wizards of the Coast , the publisher of the first internationally successful trading card game, Magic: The Gathering . The game is distinguished from the previous game variants by its pentagonal, partially transparent cards printed on plastic laminate. The game was only available in English. The basic game with 144 different cards was released on August 18, 2005 at Gen Con in Indianapolis , USA. Starter sets with 40 random cards and booster packs with 13 random cards were available in stores.

On May 24th, 2006 it was announced on the official website that the expansion Blanket of Lies would be the last expansion for Hecatomb and the game would not be further developed.

Game objective

In the game, two or more opponents face each other, each of which represents a powerful, dark magician, a so-called endbringer. The goal of every endbringer is to destroy the world with the help of conjured creatures, so-called abominations. Each endbringer tries to harvest so many souls with the help of his abominations, until he has enough power to trigger the apocalypse. To achieve this goal, you first place cards as a power source ( mana source ) in your mana zone . These are then used to summon individual creatures or cast spells. An interesting deviation from other trading card game mechanics is the composition of the subscriptions, which are "patched together" from several individual cards. For this, 2 to 5 of the cards are placed on top of each other so that you can see the lettering on the card underneath through transparent parts of the card. This opens up countless possible combinations and effects.

Each endbringer automatically receives one soul per turn and the game ends when one of the two opponents has collected 20 souls. As a result, a kind of countdown is integrated into the game, which should prevent games that are too long.
