Under yeast different fungal organisms are understood:

  • Baker's yeast (also known as baker's yeast, brewer's yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae ): a sac fungus used in bread and beer products
  • other sugar yeasts ( Saccharomyces , including bottom-fermented species)
  • in a broader sense all unicellular fungi that can reproduce asexually by budding or splitting, see yeasts
  • In medical jargon, " yeast " primarily refers to pathogenic Candida species (yeasts)
