Building history

The statue of St. John Nepomuk was erected in 1729 at the crossing of the Erft. It goes back to the founding couple Johann Josef Peter Sourdt and Isabella Katharina Hartmans. In the base inscription, the donor couple asks in Latin for help for the passers-by, refuge for the slandered, comfort for the mourning and security for the residents. In 1934, drunken SA men cut off the head of the statue.

In 1945 the bridge was blown up by German troops and the statue was completely destroyed. In 1950 the city had a new statue of Nepomuk erected, the appearance of which differs considerably from the previous sculpture.
