The Madesjö local history museum is one of the largest in Sweden. It is housed in the old church stables of Madesjö , a place in the Swedish municipality of Nybro . The museum has more than 7000 exhibits.

The church stables

From 1878, instead of the old, unsightly horse stables, new, elongated wooden stables were built for the horses of churchgoers along the straightened access roads in Madesjö. The total length of the stables was approx. 700 meters with 500 spaces. From 1930 the first stables were demolished. Only at the very last minute was the demolition of the last church stables prevented by the local folklore associations when they succeeded in making the responsible persons aware of the cultural value of the buildings.

Today the remaining church stables are around 200 m long and are one of the longest wooden buildings in Sweden.
