Heinrich II of Barmstede
Heinrich II von Barmstede († probably on August 25, 1240 ) was a Holstein nobleman.
Live and act
Heinrich II. Von Barmstede was a member of the noble family Barmstede . His ancestors are unknown. It could be that Heinrich I von Barmstede was his grandfather. The name Heinrich II can be found in many documents that Count Albert von Orlamünde sent to people in Holstein. From 1220 the name is only rarely mentioned, presumably because he reduced contact with him, but did not part with him in a conflict.
Heinrich II is also listed in the first document that Count Adolf IV signed in Holstein-Stormarn. After that he mentioned him with a few exceptions as the most important witness until he went to the Kiel monastery . During Adolf's reign, Heinrich II will very likely have been one of the Count's most important political advisers and was also responsible for his appointment at a young age.
In the 1230s, Heinrich II founded the Uetersen monastery . It is the only such foundation in the region that was made by a nobleman and not by counts or church people. He died in old age, presumably on August 25, 1240 and was buried in the church of the Uetersen monastery.
Heinrich II von Barmstede was married to Adelheid. The couple had three children, of whom Heinrich III. and Otto inherited. There is no information about the third son named Gottschalk.
