Heinrichsturm (Prague)
The Heinrichsturm ( Jindřišská věž in Czech ) is a bell tower in the New Town of Prague in Gothic style. The tower is 67.7 meters high and was built between 1472 and 1475.
The Heinrichsturm is a stand- alone tower that stands next to the church of St. Heinrich and Kunigunde . It served as a bell tower for this church. Over the years, however, a detachment from church use took place. In the tower there is a carillon with ten bells, which can only be heard inside the tower.
After the tower roof of the building was completely destroyed by a storm in 1801, the Heinrichsturm did not receive a roof again until 1878 in the form of a 32.6 meter high, redesigned spire. The architect Josef Mocker directed the repair and reconstruction work .
Today there are several restaurants and cafés as well as a gallery in the tower.
