A heiste is an elevated, paved walkway that leads to the front door or along a row of houses from front door to front door. The Heiste serves to protect pedestrians from road dust and in rainy weather from road mud. In the case of Heisten, which run along entire rows of houses, stairs allow you to climb from the driveway to the Heiste. The sidewalk is usually secured with a railing on the driveway side. Famous Heist can be found in the Swiss village of Langenthal , where they serve to protect against frequent floods.
