Anders Hejlsberg (born December 2, 1960 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish programmer and one of the leading software architects in the DOS / Windows area. He has been working for the US software company Microsoft since 1996 .

Between 1980 and 1982 Hejlsberg developed a Pascal programming system that combined editor , compiler and debugger in one program. Initially, he marketed this Pascal through his own company. In 1983 it was licensed by the Borland company , which launched the program as Turbo Pascal .

The development system set standards, made Pascal from an academic outsider to one of the three most important application programming languages ​​(next to C and BASIC ) and helped Borland to rise to the position of the most important development software manufacturer next to Microsoft .

Hejlsberg became Borland's chief developer and was responsible for keeping Turbo Pascal up to date. For example, in 1990 object-oriented programming paradigms were incorporated into Turbo Pascal 5.5. When Microsoft Windows began its triumphant advance in 1991 and Microsoft with Visual Basic spread the component-based "point-and-click" programming of GUIs, Hejlsberg recognized that conventional software development using only code and keyboard under Windows was no longer efficient, and he did took over the lead in the further development of Turbo Pascal to Delphi .
