Hekimbaşı

Hekimbaşı ( Ottoman هكيم باشی) was in the Ottoman Empire until 1826 the title of the highest doctor of the empire. A Hekimbaşı was not only Minister of Health , but also the Sultan's chief personal physician . His practice was housed in the Topkapı Palace in order to always be available to the Sultan, his family and the palace members. However, despite his ministerial status, the Hekimbaşı was not allowed to attend cabinet meetings.
